Green Data Centers: The Color of Money

Save budget. Save the planet. Save yourself.

The most effective way to save money in the data center is to create a comprehensive approach to lowering the costs of running it on an ongoing basis. At this insightful tradeshow, we will detail how a wave of new technologies in the data center are making green computing a financial imperative in the enterprise.
  • The $4.5 billion that U.S. data centers spent in 2006 on energy consumption could nearly double by 2011 to more than $7.4 billion annually, or 120 billion kilowatt hours, making data centers the nation’s single largest user of energy. Source: EPA
  • The power and cooling infrastructure that supports IT equipment in data centers can account for more than 50% of total data center energy consumption. Source: EPA
  • The EPA says that no more than 10% of all PCs in use within organizations have their power management capabilities turned on, adding that cost savings of $25 to $75 per PC could be realized annually if system standby or hibernation features are activated. Source: Forrester
  • Only 13% of IT managers have implemented wide-scale power management programs, while another 18% have set up programs but not for all of their PCs. Source: Forrester
