Paul Rohr is Disaster Recovery Manager for Pershing LLC, a Bank of New York subsidiary. In his 35-year career in computer infrastructure services, Paul has managed the data center, systems, systems software, software configuration, the network, servers, information security and disaster recovery. His responsibility for Pershing’s Disaster Recovery Program began in 2001. He has had two distinctly different experiences focused on disaster recovery. Earlier in his career, he was responsible for a vendor-provided solution where the state of the art recovery was real-time journaling and restoration from archived backup copies of data volume at the vendors "hot" site. In the current iteration, he uses a solution based on geographically disparate, fully redundant data centers. Wherever applicable, the company has deployed load balanced, active-active configurations. Where that is not feasible, full replication of data between sites minimizes data loss.
